Suffolk accelerates superfast broadband rollout
By the end of September this year, 16 locations across Suffolk will have access to superfast broadband as the county's rollout programme is accelerated.

The multimillion-pound project between Suffolk County Council, BT and the government has already begun and BT's engineers recently realised that some infrastructure will be easier to connect up than they had envisaged.

As a result, customers in 2,500 homes and businesses will be able to order the new broadband technology three months ahead of the original schedule.

Suffolk County Council predicts the project could provide a £2 billion boost to the local economy over the next 15 years thanks to the arrival of download speeds of up to 80Mbps and upload speeds of up to 20Mbps.

Leader at the council Mark Bee said: "Switching on the first cabinets is a truly significant milestone in the Better Broadband for Suffolk programme and is very much the start of great things to come."

Broadband Delivery UK estimates that only eight areas in Suffolk can currently achieve broadband speeds above 8Mbps, but 90 per cent of premises will get broadband speed uplifts of 10Mbps or more by the time the project is completed.
