Superfast broadband arrives in Halton
Residents in the Halton borough of Cheshire can now access superfast fibre broadband thanks to a regional rollout programme.

Connecting Cheshire - a £28.5 million scheme aiming to bring better broadband to homes and businesses in the county - recently announced it would be working to provide 80,000 additional premises with loading speeds of up to 80Mbps.

Halton has been connected in the first phase of the rollout, with 15,000 residential and commercial properties in the area set to gain access to the high-speed technology overall, Runcorn and Widnes World reports.

When the Connecting Cheshire rollout was initially announced, Leader of Halton Council Rob Polhill commented: "Access to high-speed internet has never been more important … in today's rapidly moving world, fast and sophisticated communications are absolutely vital."

It is hoped that by the end of 2015, around 400,000 properties in Cheshire, Halton and Warrington will be able to access superfast fibre broadband, meaning 96 per cent of the county will be covered by the high-speed service.
