Worcs council pleased BDUK plans are nearing approval
The EU's forthcoming approval of the BDUK framework has been hailed as great news for Worcestershire.
The government's Broadband Delivery UK (BDUK) framework has been delayed while European officials investigate whether it broke rules on state aid, but is expected to be given the green light within the coming weeks.
David Thain, cabinet member responsible for faster broadband at Worcestershire County Council, said the local authority lobbied at a "very high level" for this approval to be granted, reports the Worcester News.
"Broadband is incredibly important these days - some people won't even move into a house if they know speeds are slow," he noted. "This is great news for Worcestershire."
With the BDUK project close to being approved, Worcestershire can look forward to moving ahead with its own super-fast broadband plans, which have been put on hold for five months.
The multimillion-pound initiative aims to bring super-fast broadband to 90 per cent of homes and businesses across the county by the end of 2015.
